Rupee surges 64 paise vs US dollar, best since February
The rupee jumped 64 paise or 0.74% to close at 86.0537 against the US dollar on Friday, recording its biggest gain in two months, tracking gains in major Asian currencies as the dollar index fell to a nearly two-year low. The local currency was also supported by a strong gain in the equity market. The rupee had gained 65 paise on February 11. However, on the weekly basis, the rupee has weakened by 0.9%.
‘Win-win’ trade deal with US likely soon
The planned bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between India and the US might take a “win-win shape and form,” before the 90-day window created by the pause on full reciprocal tariffs, a senior government functionary said on Friday.
February IIP growth eases to 2.9% on slowdown in manufacturing, mining
India’s industrial production growth, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), dropped to 2.9 per cent in the month of February from 5 per cent in January, official data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) showed on Friday. The slowdown reflected a broad-based moderation across key sectors. January growth was at an eight-month high driven by an uptick in the critical manufacturing sector.
